Dr Atkins diet program works by reducing the amount of carbohydrate intake which stimulates the boy to burn off stored fat as a result. It is a very popular diet that has been used by celebrities and the ordinary men and women from all walks of life to achieve their weight loss goals. As this diet allows you to enjoy unlimited amounts of food as long as those are carbohydrate free, most people would find it an easier alternative to lose weight than having to count calories all the way.

The Dr Atkins diet consists of four primary stages which attempt to reduce the intake of carbohydrates. During the first stages of the diet one would need to block out the intake of carbohydrates and sugar to induce the body to a fat burning state; though it may seem harsh but this is a much better alternative to starvation diet which can be ineffective and other calorie counting diets which can leave anyone feeling hungry and deprived. The Dr Atkins diet has taken the concept of dieting into a different level by introducing a paradigm shift in the pattern of the food intake.

Rather than focusing on the amount of food intake, the Dr Atkins diet shifts the focus to the type of food one consumes in a day. Dr Atkins believed that most people who are overweight actually have insulin resistant of some level and this works to convert the carbohydrate intake into stored fat, instead of into glucose to be used as energy. The normal metabolism process turns the glucose into glycogen which is used as energy by the muscles to perform physical activities. Those with a higher insulin resistance tend to suffer from the inefficacy of this conversion process and therefore, the intake of carbohydrates are stored as fat as a result. By following the Dr Atkins diet program anyone who is insulin resistant can reduce the intake of carbohydrates which is very useful to help people lose weight.

To be successful in the Dr Atkins diet program, a careful monitoring of the intake of both carbohydrate and sugary foods must be exercised. It is impossible to feel hungry as there is an abundance of permissible foods on the Dr Atkins diet list that you may consume during the duration of the program. Basically, it is important to steer away from the bad carbohydrate foods such as processed and packaged foods and that would include those frozen foods as well.

It is important to keep the carbohydrate intake to a level below 40gram per day so your body would remain in the ketosis stage. The ketosis stage is a condition where your body burns off huge amounts of fat in an attempt to replace the drastic reduction of carbohydrate food which were previously used as the main source of energy. As a result rapid weight loss is achieved and fat is burnt off as the new source of fuel for the body.
