How Long Should You Diet?
There are lots of diet plans available today and depending on the one you choose, you will have different answers to the question, “How long should you diet?” Many of the diet plans that are available, especially the ones that offer quick, fast weight loss, are not sustainable in the long term. You will be hungry, tired or bored quickly if you have had to make radical changes to the foods you eat and your body is not getting enough nutrition. What is more, many of these diet plans are unhealthy in the long term as your vital organs are not getting what they need. This is especially true of the low carb high protein diets that used to be in favour for a long time. So, how long should you diet, once you choose your diet plan?
Depending on your usual diet, for long term success of a weight loss plan, you may also need to make some lifestyle changes. Many people these days eat far too much fast and highly processed food. However, if your diet is balanced and includes lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables as well as grains and cereals, chances are you will not feel hungry or tired. A balanced diet does not have to be boring either as there are many nutritious recipes available from which to choose. The very best diet also means that you will be eating nutritious food that is in the closest state possible to its natural form.
But what if you do not like raw carrots? There are many other vegetables to choose from, as well as many vegetable juices. Given all of the choices available and all of the options for preparing vegetables these days, you will have lots of options.
The best weight loss plan is conservative and how long you should diet, depends on you and results you achieve. Rather than losing a lot of weight really fast, it is more sensible to aim for long term weight loss that is slow and steady. As well as a change in diet, for most people this also includes getting more exercise. It does not however mean that you will need to join a fitness program or spend money on elaborate workout equipment. Although this would not hurt, it is sufficient to just increase your regular activity level by for example, going for a walk after dinner each night or going to a swimming pool regularly.
The answer to the question how long you should diet depends on your overall fitness level and your dieting goals. If you want to lose weight fast and decide to go on a starvation diet for example, you will want to make sure that your health is not suffering. You may for example set as a goal to lose the first ten pounds very quickly and then maintain your weight loss over a longer period of time at one pound per week for example. It is always a good idea to consult with a health care practitioner to come up with a weight loss program for you especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. Remember, slow and steady wins the race in weight loss too.
